What makes you a good mentor?
To teach is to learn twice - Joseph Joubert. Selfishly, mentoring will assist me in continuing to “live deliberately”. It's said that in order to truly understand a subject matter one should be able to articulate that subject matter in a clear and cohesive manner. In other words you should be able to teach it. Mentoring and coaching help me accomplish that goal. At the same time another part of my motivation is "to pay it forward" as other mentor's and coaches have done and continue to do for me. Mentoring is the opportunity to share my experience with others who might benefit from the lessons learned along the journey. Eleanor Roosevelt said it best: "Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself." Hopefully by sharing my journey and experience with others I can help them live more purposefully, earlier on in their lives.
