What makes you a good mentor?
Mentoring gives me the opportunity to offer advice and the benefit of my experience to those entering the work force who are interested in pursuing a career similar to mine. At the same time, it gives me the opportunity to see my experiences as well as other possibilities for those in my field through fresh eyes and learn from my mentee.
About Louise Hayes
Louise Hayes is currently the Senior Director, Ministerial Services at Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS). A key part of this role is the coordination of the Treasury Board Cabinet Committee. Prior to this role, she spent two years as the Director of Parliamentary and Cabinet Affairs at TBS. She has over ten years experience working in and around Parliament. Prior to working for TBS, she was a Strategic Policy Manager at Health Canada in a science-based program. She has also served as the Chief, Legislation at Veterans Affairs Canada, has worked as a Procedural Clerk for the House of Commons, has worked in regulatory affairs, communications and for a national literacy organization. Prior to joining the Public Service she spent three and a half years working for a former federal cabinet minister in several portfolios.
She is a very proud Carleton alumna and has been involved in the Carleton University Alumni Association (CUAA) since 2007, first as the President of the Swim Team Alumni Chapter. She joined the CUAA Executive as the Athletic Chapters’ Representative in 2010 and is currently the past President of the CUAA and its representative to Carleton’s Board of Governors. She also currently sits on the University Senate. Louise has an undergraduate degree in Journalism and Political Science and a Master of Arts degree in Political Science, both from Carleton University. Louise lives in Ottawa with her husband and two daughters.
