What makes you a good mentor?
I have always learned fastest when I have someone who has been through similar situations, and understood what I was trying to do. I have had the benefit of a number of great mentors so far in my career, and I know how much they helped. If a student can use my experience to their benefit, I want to offer my time.
About Evan Butler-Jones
Evan worked in both technical and marketing/technical sales positions at Mxi Technologies over a period of 10 years. In his time with Mxi, his responsibilities included leading a multi-year project in Latin America, and developing the technical sales and product marketing functions for the company.
For 2 years, Evan was the CEO of the Materials Joining Innovation Centre in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. MaJIC is a not-for-profit, Ontario-based innovation centre providing industry with practical solutions to welding problems. In his role as CEO, Evan reported to the board of directors, developed short and long term growth strategies, developed research and technical service opportunities, and oversaw administrative and technical operations.
Currently, as the Applied Research Leader, Evan is responsible for the operations and ongoing development of ICAMP within Canadore College. ICAMP is shared R&D facility for Canadian manufacturers, providing access to the latest in manufacturing technologies, including industrial robotics, additive manufacturing, multi-axis CNC cutting and machining, and 3D scanning and modelling tools.
