Fund For Good

This endowed fund, created by donations from alumni and members of our Carleton community, gives every student better access to experiential learning opportunities. Research shows that experiential learning contributes to student engagement, deeper learning, improved academic outcomes and enhanced work and life skills. With your support of the Fund for Good, you have and continue to help students choose their futures, and empower them to impact the future of others.

Impact on Students

Complementing traditional coursework with experiential learning has a transformative impact on students and enriches their educational experience. Students develop their leadership, teamwork and presentation skills, they learn to be critical and creative thinkers, and it helps to build their network. All of these things enhance education inside the classroom, increase student engagement in their studies and bolster employment opportunities after graduation.

The Greater Good

Through their participation in experiential learning, students apply their education to develop solutions for the greater good, collaboratively tackling problems with communities across the globe. Engineering students are working with an Indigenous community on renewable energy. Students in Engineering and Sprott School of Business are collaborating with a rural community in Longido, Tanzania to tackle issues of water shortages. Through science research internships, students are gaining lab experience while tackling current health issues. Students from several faculties are collaborating to help communities develop creative tools in response to health, agriculture, and waste management challenges. As you can see, your impact goes far beyond Carleton’s campus.

Your donations have helped make experiential learning accessible to all students, regardless of their financial background. Gifts have supported: travel costs to field placements abroad, national or international competitions; registration fees; internship stipends; materials and manufacturing costs to build prototypes. Having these resources enhances students’ educational experiences and contributes to their academic success.

Thanks to the support of donors like you, students across Carleton have the opportunity to enhance their academic journey through experiential learning. These unique opportunities help our Ravens soar by increasing their engagement with the community, while gaining hands-on knowledge and experience. It helps our next generation of leaders build a conviction that they can make a difference in society, by encouraging them to see the world through a different lens. Here is a glimpse at some of the initiatives and students supported by the Fund for Good that help drive purpose through education.

Experiential Learning is a Priority

“As Carleton University’s Provost and Vice-President (Academic), I am passionate about experiential learning—one of our foremost academic priorities and an important part of Carleton’s culture.

I am proud to say that Carleton is a leader in experiential learning. The Fund for Good’s permanent endowment means it will have a long-term and sustainable impact, fostering an environment for an exceptional student experience for years to come.

One of Carleton’s primary strategic directions is focused on sharing knowledge that will shape our collective future. It takes a community to foster an environment of academic excellence and innovation for students. Your commitment makes it possible for more students to have access to the types of experiences that will serve them well in the future and will give them an advantage after graduation.

Thank you for your commitment to helping our Ravens succeed.”

Alumni Support Matters

The CUAA is proud to support the Fund for Good. It is our belief that combining real-life experiences with in-class learning helps multiply, not just add to, the value of our education.

Through experiential learning, students have the opportunity to see the direct impact that their studies and experiences have on our communities. This means Carleton students – our future alumni – are even better prepared to tackle the challenges facing our community, our nation and our world.

Many of these learning opportunities outside the classroom are possible because of partnerships fostered and maintained by the University and they become a natural extension of the students’ connection to the Carleton community. In doing so, we create partners not only of industry, government and academia, but of students, alumni and community leaders.

The Fund for Good, through students and its partners, is here to make a difference – and that’s something we are proud to support.
