Young Alumni Workplace Tour: Mayor’s Office

We always talk about how a Carleton degree can take you anywhere. Well, we’re here to now show you where it has taken some of our grads. Join us on a behind-the-scenes tour of one of the highest offices in the city: Mayor Jim Watson’s Office.

Join us to see what it takes, and what goes into working there.

On March 11th, join us at The Office of the Mayor (110 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa, ON K1P 1J1) for a tour, a talk with His Worship, Jim Watson (BA/83), along with other senior officials in the mayor’s office about their experiences working there, followed by a reception and Q and A session.

Registration is free and can be done in the form below. Spots are limited, so be sure to reserve your spot ASAP. Light refreshments will be served.

4:30pm-4:45 pm: Registration and check in at the Mayor’s Office.

4:45 pm – 5:05 pm: Opening remarks, ground rules, and icebreakers

5:05 pm – 5:45 pm: Tour of workplace and Q and A session with His Worship, Jim Watson, and other senior officials from the Mayor’s Office.

5:45pm – 6:30pm: Networking

 

 

About Jim Watson

Jim Watson was re-elected as Mayor of the City of Ottawa for a third consecutive term on October 22, 2018, with more than 71% of the popular vote.

Mayor Watson has dedicated most of his career to public service in Canada’s capital.

First elected as a Councillor in 1991, he was re-elected in 1994. Three years later, he was elected as the youngest Mayor in Ottawa’s history with 82% of the popular vote.

Following the amalgamation of Ottawa and surrounding communities, Mayor Watson was appointed the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Tourism Commission, a federal crown corporation.

In 2003, he was elected as the Member of Provincial Parliament for Ottawa West-Nepean and immediately appointed to cabinet as Minister of Consumer and Business Services.

In 2005, he was appointed as Ontario’s first Minister of Health Promotion and he successfully implemented the Smoke Free Ontario Act.
