You’re invited to three behind-the-scenes tours of some of the city’s most prestigious and exciting companies, and to meet some of the Carleton graduates who work there.
Join us to see what it takes, and what goes into, working at some of Ottawa’s most prominent companies.

About Michael Crichton
Michael Crichton is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office and the Canadian leader of Gowling WLG’s Intellectual Property Litigation & Strategy Group.
Michael has a decade and a half of experience as an intellectual property litigator and strategic adviser. Both his domestic and international clients consist of companies engaged in a wide range of technologies, including mechanical, electrical, computer hardware and software, manufacturing/fabrication, communications, and related technologies.
Recognized in Lexpert, IAM Patent 1000, Managing IP’s IP Stars, Who’s Who Legal: Patents and The Best Lawyers in Canada for intellectual property law, Michael has appeared as trial counsel in a number of patent litigation proceedings, and represents clients before the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Michael also regularly acts for clients involved in disputes concerning complex trade secrets and software copyright enforcement and is experienced with respect to Canada/U.S. cross-border intellectual property litigation and related matters.
Outside of the courtroom, Michael regularly represents and advises clients with respect to licensing of intellectual property, mediation proceedings and throughout settlement negotiations. As a go-to intellectual property legal adviser for many clients, Michael frequently provides strategic counselling and opinions regarding patent infringement, patent validity and related issues. In addition, as a registered patent agent for over a decade, Michael’s practice includes patent drafting, prosecution and portfolio management.
Michael is a regular author on intellectual property matters, including articles published by IAM, Managing IP
and
the Financial Post, among others, as well as a chapter regarding patent litigation in Canada for the treatise Global Patent Litigation: How and where to win published by Bloomberg BNA.
In 2017, Michael was named a Lexpert “Rising Star – Leading Lawyer under 40” for being at the top of the legal profession in Canada – both in his law practice and in the community. In 2015, he was also recognized as a Forty under 40 winner by the Ottawa Business Journal and Ottawa Chamber of Commerce for both his business and community accomplishments.
Michael is an adjunct professor of intellectual property litigation (and previously an adjunct professor of patent law) at the University of Ottawa, the chair of the Ottawa chapter of the Licensing Executives Society, a member of the IP Court Practice Committee for the Canadian Bar Association, an executive member for LESI’s Young Members Congress (mentorship co-chair), a Fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada and previously the editor-in-chief of Gowling WLG’s IP Report.

About Stephanie Pearce
Stephanie Pearce is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office, practising in the Public Procurement Group, specifically in the areas of civil and administrative litigation, health law, government procurement, bid protests and judicial review.
Her practice includes representing clients in judicial review of government and tribunal decisions, statutory appeals of federal agency decisions and civil litigation in tort and breach of contract. She also has experience advising clients with respect to access to information requests and laws and policies relating to public procurements.
Stephanie has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Federal Court of Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada. Her work also involves proceedings before various administrative tribunals including the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, the Canada Transportation Agency and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. She has also appeared as counsel at coroner’s inquests, before the discipline committee of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and before the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board.
Since 2005 Stephanie has volunteered with GuluWalk, an international initiative to highlight the plight of Acholi children in northern Uganda.

About Karen Hennessey
Karen Hennessey is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office and leader of the firm’s Canadian Corporate practice group.
Karen regularly provides advice to clients with respect to structuring, organizing and reorganizing their business, and in planning for and implementing the client’s growth (or exit) strategies through M&A transactions. Karen’s clients appreciate her practical approach to legal service delivery and rely on her to be a trusted adviser who handles their day-to-day legal needs, as well as a “legal quarterback,” managing and coordinating the work of specialists when needed. She also acts as outside general counsel for a number of public and private sector entities.
Karen’s expertise in corporate law is recognized by Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory 2018 in three separate categories: Corporate Commercial, Corporate Mid-Market and Mergers & Acquisitions.
In recognition of her steadfast dedication to clients, in-depth legal expertise and longstanding involvement with local charity groups, Karen was recognized as one of Lexpert’s “Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40” in 2015. In spring 2014, she was also recognized by the Ottawa Business Journal and the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce as a “Forty Under 40” award winner for her notable accomplishments as a leader in business and the community.
In April 2018, Karen was named “Businesswoman of the Year” in the Professional Category by the Women’s Business Network in Ottawa as a recognition of her business acumen, outstanding leadership and community engagement.
Karen is very active in the Ottawa community. She is currently a board member of the Ottawa Ronald McDonald House and the Hnatyshyn Foundation. She is also an active member of the City View Curling Club and served on the Club’s board of directors from 2006-2008. She also served on the board of directors of the Christmas Cheer Foundation from 2010 to 2015 and on the board of directors of H’Art of Ottawa from 2007 to 2009.
