The Economics Chapter of the Carleton University Alumni Association (CUAA) and the Department of Economics are pleased to host the 13th annual Economics Alumni Reception at Throwback, on Thursday, October 1, 2026. This annual event provides an opportunity for Economics graduates of all eras, faculty and staff to gather on campus during Throwback, Carleton’s fall homecoming celebration, to reconnect for an evening of networking and community.
The event will include a light reception, welcome remarks by Economics Chapter Co-Presidents, David Mayer and Zachary Sullivan, update from the Department of Economics, and a fireside chat and Q&A with guest of honour and distinguished alumnus, Benjamin Felix (MBA/14), as well as a draw for some great door prizes.
Ben Felix is Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager at PWL Capital and a prominent online voice in evidence-based investing and financial decision-making. He has garnered over 600,000 subscribers and tens of millions of views through his YouTube channel and co-hosts The Rational Reminder Podcast, one of Canada’s leading investing podcasts.
Much of Ben’s work focuses on translating rigorous research in finance and economics into practical insights for a broad audience. He has also interviewed leading researchers, investors, and financial thinkers, including Nobel laureates Eugene Fama and Robert C. Merton, Kenneth French, John Cochrane, Cliff Asness, and Morgan Housel.
His clear and transparent communication of research-backed ideas in finance and investing has made him a sought-after guest and commentator, with appearances on Steven Bartlett’s The Diary of a CEO, David Chilton’s The Wealthy Barber Podcast, The Iced Coffee Hour, and Morningstar’s The Long View.
Ben graduated from Northeastern University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, where he also played varsity basketball for the Northeastern Huskies. He went on to complete his MBA at Carleton University in 2014, earned the CFA charter in 2016, and became a CFP professional in 2017.

Paid visitor parking is available in P16, the Richcraft Hall underground parking lot. Additional visitor parking can be found in lot P2 in front of Nideyinàn (formally the University Centre) and lot P18, the parking garage located near the Bronson entrance to campus.
