Honorary Degrees Committee Representative
The Call for Expressions of Interest is now open. Deadline to submit is July 9, 2026.
The Senate Honorary Degrees Committee Representative is responsible for overseeing the nomination and selection of recipients for honorary degrees. Interested candidates are encouraged to complete the online application below to submit an expression of interest.
In this role, you will:
- Attend all Committee meetings as required for a one-year term (meetings normally occur twice per year)
- Review and assess nominations for honorary degree candidates submitted by the university community, using established criteria to evaluate merit and eligibility
- Contribute to discussions and decisions that identify individuals whose achievements reflect the university’s values and standards of excellence
- Recommend candidates to Senate for approval, helping ensure a balanced and diverse range of recipients across disciplines and areas of contribution
- Support policy and process improvements, including reviewing and advising on updates to honorary degree guidelines when needed
Eligibility Requirements
- Be a graduate of Carleton University
- Reside in the Ottawa area (Meetings are held in person)
As a representative, you will play an important role in recognizing outstanding individuals and shaping how the university celebrates achievement and impact within and beyond the academic community.
