Alumni Email Accounts – Terms of Use

Use of a Carleton University alumni e-mail account (hereafter referred to as “the Account”) is subject to Carleton University’s Terms of Use for Alumni e-mail accounts. While Carleton University endeavors to make the Account available to you for as long as you wish to use it, the University cannot and does not make any guarantees or warranties of such, due to the nature of changing technologies and markets.

Account prefixes must contain your name. Names of companies, or non-identifying prefixes (e.g., hellothere@alumni.carleton.ca) are not allowed.

These Terms of Use may be modified, updated, or otherwise changed by Carleton University at any time.

By requesting and/or logging into a Carleton University alumni e-mail account, you agree to the following terms:

Limitations on Use

Accounts are solely for personal use, and may not be used for any commercial or business purpose.

Compliance with Laws and Prohibited Conduct

You agree to comply with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies (“Laws”) and acknowledge that you may only use the Account if, and to the extent that, such use is permitted by such Laws.

You agree not to engage in any conduct as a user of the Account that the University, in its sole discretion, determines to be detrimental to the interests of the University (“Prohibited Conduct”). Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, you agree that when using the communication services, you will not:

International Use

You agree to comply with all applicable local and international laws regarding online conduct and data transmission.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The Account is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Carleton University disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

Technical Support

The University is not obligated to provide technical support for Accounts.

Limitation of Liability

Use of an Account is at the user’s sole risk. Carleton University shall not be liable to the user or to any third party for any reason in relation to the Account.

Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, Carleton University is not responsible for any use or misuse of the Account, for any messages received or sent by an Account, for any person’s inability to access or use an Account, or for any breach of privacy or security that may occur in relation to an Account.

Carleton University’s total aggregate liability for any all matters in relation to the Account shall not exceed CDN $100.00.

Loss of Access Due to Abandonment

Accounts not accessed for one (1) year may be deemed abandoned. Abandoned accounts may be terminated without notice.

Termination

You may terminate your Account by contacting advancement@carleton.ca.

The University may suspend or terminate access to any Account at its sole discretion, without notice. The University shall have no liability in relation to the termination of an Account for any reason.

University Policies

Use of an Account is subject to all applicable University policies including, without limitation, its Acceptable Use of IT and Email Policy.
