What makes you a good mentor?
I have been fortunate to have several senior colleagues provide me with valuable advice and guidance throughout my career. I think that it is extremely valuable to have a friendly face to chat with about the major and minor decisions that affect the trajectory of a career. I enjoy providing some perspective to new professionals as they begin their careers.
About Andrew Giallonardo
I graduated from Carleton in 2007 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering (Stream A).
I am a licensed professional engineer, working for Environment Canada, developing regulations to control emissions from vehicle and engines in Canada. I am currently working on regulations which address greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from light-duty vehicles (personal cars and trucks). This primarily involves:
– Conducting research, testing and analysis to support regulatory development
– Working with manufacturers, environmental non-governmental organizations and research laboratories to maximize emissions reductions and minimize the costs which must be borne by industry
– Working with lawyers and other engineers to draft the legal text of federal regulations
I have previously developed GHG emission regulations for heavy-duty vehicles (tractor-trailers, garbage trucks, etc) and emission and fuel standards for ocean-going commercial ships. I have also worked at Environment Canada’s emissions testing facility and at Natural Resources Canada working to improve the energy efficiency of lighting products.
In my spare time I enjoy watching and playing sports, and participating in triathlons.
