What makes you a good mentor?
I was very fortunate early in my career to have access to great mentors. They provided me great examples of how to conduct myself in business, assist with decisions that shaped my career and how to give back to my community. I want to be able to provide what I was so lucky to have when I was younger and that I still have to others in order to help them become successful. I also want to give back to Carleton University, an institution that opened so many doors for me in my life.
About Jeff Matheson
I am currently the Vice President of Sales for a Fintech start-up company that is based in Ottawa, CA and San Francisco, CA. As a global payments provider we help companies pay their vendors, suppliers and contractors anytime, anywhere with our easy-to-use service. I am responsible for managing the sales side of the organization and part of the companies Executive Team. Working for a Fintech start-up is very demading but also very rewarding. We are disrupting the way business’ make payments globally and being part of a team revolutionizing the payments industry is extremely fun.
I’ve spent the last 18 years of my career in the global payments industry, mostly on the sales side of the business, building high-performance sales teams in global finance. I’ve held executive and leadership roles in the private and public sectors at multinational firms. In 2009, I earned the prestigious Ottawa Business Journal Forty Under 40 ranking for exemplifying leadership, entrepreneurship, and community building.
