What makes you a good mentor?
I was very fortunate myself to have amazing help from professors at Carleton, and mentors at the University of Ottawa and throughout my law career. Were it not for those individuals, I would certainly not be where I am today. For this reason, I have been volunteering as a mentor pursuant to various platforms since becoming a lawyer, and have seen the positive impact that a bit of time and energy can do for someone. Giving back just simply makes me happy.
About Karine Dion
I am a graduate from Carleton University, graduating with an Honours in Psychology and a Minor in Biology. I especially enjoyed my time at Carleton because I truly feel that the professors are teachers first, and researchers second. They always made me feel welcomed and always had time to answer my questions.
Since graduating from Carleton in 2009, I received my Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa in 2012, and have been working as a Labour and Employment Law lawyer at Nelligan O’Brien Payne LLP since February 2014. Prior to Nelligan’s, I summered, articled, and worked as an Associate in Insurance Defence at Gowling WLG (formerly Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP). In my current role, most of my clients are employees, but I also do represent some employer clients. On the labour side, we only represent the unions themselves. I work with a group of hard-working, enthusiastic individuals.
On my spare time, I enjoy travelling, and especially enjoy hiking and camping through some of the most amazing countries and landscapes possible.
