For his outstanding contributions to law and public service in Canada, Andre Marin, BA/85, was presented with the 2011 A.D. Dunton Alumni Award of Distinction by the Carleton University Alumni Association. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Carleton University and graduated from the University of Ottawa with a law degree, magna cum laude in 1989.
As Ontario’s sixth Ombudsman, Mr. Marin has led high-profile, systemic investigations into issues affecting millions of Ontarians, from newborn babies to property taxpayers to lottery players. His pioneering work—alongside his achievements in his previous position as Canada’s first Ombudsman for the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces—has drawn the interest of the global ombudsman community. His expertise in setting up an effective ombudsman office and investigative teams has been sought out by ombudsmen and other watchdog agencies across Canada and around the world.
