Top of Page
6. Q: Why do I get so many calls from Carleton?
A: We do our best to call each household only once a year. If you do get more than one call please let the caller know and we will do our best to ensure that it does not happen again.
Top of Page

A: Any increase in your annual gift helps the Annual Fund and the University tremendously.
Top of Page
11. Q: How does my gift make a difference?
A: Never underestimate the impact of your gift! Gifts of any size make a difference to students and the university. Community Campaign FAQ
1. What is the Campus Community Campaign?
2. I contribute to the success of the university everyday, why should I contribute financially as well?
3. How can my gift make a difference?
4. How much should I give?
5. Can I choose where my gift will be directed?
6. Can I designate to more than one area?
7. None of the University Wide Priorities interest me. Are there any other options?
8. Is my gift tax deductible?
9. I'm taking a leave or planning to go on sabbatical.
10. Will you or anyone else know how much I've contributed, if any?
11. If my financial circumstances change, can I alter my pledge?
12. How can I give?
1. Q: What is the Campus Community Campaign?
A: This annual appeal to Carleton Faculty and Staff helps ensure that Carleton continues to grow and develop new and exciting opportunities for our students. By supporting Student Aid, Athletics, or the MacOdrum Library, we can give back to the university we care so much about.
Top of Page
2. Q: I already work at the university and contribute to its success everyday, why should I contribute financially as well?
A: You have already answered your Question. Each of us should give because we do work here and the University is an important part of our lives. The Campus Community Campaign is an opportunity for you to support something that you really care about here at Carleton. As members of the University community we can all see first hand how expensive it has become to obtain a post-secondary education. For some, it will soon be out of reach unless we can generate enough financial support to increase scholarships, bursaries or alternate funding for programs and resources. Faculty and Staff support can go a long way to helping.
Top of Page
3. Q: How can my gift make a difference?
A: Your gift, no matter what the size, will make a significant difference, especially for students. A significant level of internal participation from Faculty and Staff can demonstrate to alumni, friends and corporations that we care about and believe in Carleton's future which can inspire them to give generously themselves. Together, we help build a stronger, more vibrant university.
Top of Page
4. Q: How much should I give?
A: Giving is a very personal decision. We encourage you to contribute the best of your ability. Your participation is what counts.
Top of Page
5. Q: Can I choose where my gift will be directed?
A: Yes! Our priorities for this year include the Campus Community Campaign Bursary, bolstering the existing Centre for Initiatives in Education (CIE) Endowment and increasing support for the MacOdrum Library. There are, however, over 700 designations at Carleton to choose from. You can support any area that you care about from student financial assistance to a specific faculty or department. Rest assured that your contribution will go to that designation and nowhere else unless you decide to change it.
Top of Page
6. Q: Can I designate to more than one area?
A: Certainly. You can choose as many as you like. Just indicate the area and the amount of each designation on the pledge card.
Top of Page
7. Q: None of the University Wide Priorities interest me. Are there any other options?
A: Absolutely. Several key areas of need have been identified by the University, but you don't have to support those areas. Mary Kange, Annual Giving Officer, will be happy to explore other options with you. If you choose not to support an existing fund, you might consider pooling your contributions together with your colleagues. For as little as $500 annually for five years, you can create and name an endowed award, determine the criteria and support a student according to your area of interest. The interest accrued annually can fund a bursary in perpetuity.
Top of Page
8. Q: Is my gift tax deductible?
A: Absolutely, 100%. You will benefit from an official tax receipt for any gift. Payroll deductions will appear on your T4 slip for the corresponding year.
Top of Page
9. Q: I'm taking a leave or planning to go on sabbatical.
A: You can still make a contribution by designing a payment schedule that suits your needs. A convenient instalment plan can be set up with credit card or cheque payment options.
Top of Page
10. Q: Will you or anyone else know how much I've contributed, if any?
A: No. All gifts are confidential. Only the Department of University Advancement and payroll personnel will know what you decided, and that information will remain confidential. We do list donor names in our annual Donor Report, for those individuals who join our H.M. Tory Society by giving $500 or more in a calendar year or whose lifetime giving exceeds $25,000. If you qualify for the Donor Report but would prefer not to be listed, we will respect your choice.
Top of Page
11. Q: If my financial circumstances change, can I alter my pledge?
A: Of course. Giving is a very personal decision, and a voluntary one. You can change the terms at any time. Simply call the Department of University Advancement.
Top of Page
12. Q: How can I give?
A: Payroll Deduction is the easiest way to give. We can set up your pledge to have your gift deducted from your monthly pay. We can also set up an ongoing pledge on credit card or by pre-authorized debit from your bank account. One time gifts can be made by credit card, cheque, or cash. To make a gift of appreciated securities contact Rowena Griffiths at ext. 2484 or by email at rowena_grifftiths@carleton.ca. or to make a gift in kind please contact Fran Platt at ext. 8976 to explore this giving option.

Top of Page
8. Q: Why are you asking me for a donation, I don't have any extra money!
A: Class Act is a great way to support future students needing financial aid by creating a bursary that will exist in perpetuity. Many Carleton students are currently experiencing financial strain, but a donation of just $20.10 will help us reach our goal. Plus, we'll send a tribute letter to someone special to you on your behalf letting them know that you appreciate their support.
Top of Page
9. Q: I worked my way through school; I don't want to support other students.
A: Many Carleton students do work to pay their way through school, but with tuition so high, student financial aid is increasingly important. We're asking graduates to make a contribution to Class Act to lend a hand to students who are juggling work and school and still not making ends meet.
