Call it St. Luke’s Park, The Musical
Co-founded by Carleton University’s Jesse Stewart and Matt Edwards, BArch/08, MArch/11, Mixed Metaphors Design was recently awarded a public-art commission for St. Luke’s Park in Ottawa. The Listening Tree is a 14-foot sound sculpture created from stainless-steel tubes. Placed at the entrance to the urban park, the “tree” will tempt passersby to enter the green space, its hollow tubes emitting a gentle hum as they reinforce sounds from the nearby streets and sidewalk. “By engaging both the visual and aural senses of park visitors, we hope that The Listening Tree will become both a landmark and a sound mark within the city,” says Stewart. The sculpture will be installed in the spring of 2016.
